Range fee: Bring $40 on class day for range fee.

Date: 10-14-2023

Time: 10am – 4:30pm

Duration: 6.5 class hours with breaks and lunch

Lunch: 30 minutes. Bring enough food and hydration to sustain yourself throughout the 6.5 hour day. There is no food close by.

Deposit Option: Deposit Amount $80 I will invoice the remaining $80 the week of class. It must be paid by October 13th .

Equipment needed:
-Shotgun (semi or pump – it matters not)
-Must I own a shotgun? NO. We will have several loaner shotguns. Try before you buy.

Round Count: For your specific caliber usually 12 gauge or 20 gauge.
-3 boxes of birdshot (75 rounds)
-2 boxes of 00 Buckshot (20 rounds total)
-1 box of slugs (5 rounds total)
**Note – 12-gauge birdshot is available at Walmart $33/100 rounds. 00 Buckshot and slugs are available at
Shoot Smart, Cabela’s, Academy and Scheels.

Other Equipment:
-Usual range gear – eye protection ear protection
-A bag or dump pouch for spare ammunition. Amazon search: shotgun ammo pouch.
-Camping chair for breaks
-Bug spray and/or sunscreen

Definition of Success / Class Goal:
Our goal for you is to complete the class with a solid understanding of the proper set up and correct use of a shotgun for defensive purposes. We want you to be confident in your ability to purchase a shotgun and proper ammunition for it as well as be confident in your ability to safely load it, unload it, and shoot it with excellent marksmanship skills.

The shotgun is one of the most effective firearms available to the average citizen. It is often misunderstood and often the most completely under-utilized platform of the 3 disciplines (pistol, rifle, shotgun). Per Mindy “I never knew how much I needed a shotgun in my life until the day I was shown how to correctly shoot the all mighty boom stick! After one correct shot, I was
hooked! No one should be afraid of the shotgun. You should be taught with care because without it, you’ll never want to pick it up again. We want to help you understand it, appreciate it, and love it as much as we do”.

Topics we will cover include:
-Firearms safety, including safety precautions specific to shotguns.
-Selecting a shotgun (which one is best for you).
-Modifications and Accessories. What is a quality accessory & what is a waste of money.
-Ammunition for the job.
-Patterning for optimum safety as it pertains to home defense.
-Nomenclature
-Shooting technique – fundamentals of shotgun marksmanship.
-Loading/reloading techniques.
-Safe storage as it pertains to shotguns.

Upon arriving at the range, you’ll stop in the office (just right of the main gate entrance) to check in and pay the range fee. We will meet everyone at the big white barn, just through the gate.

Completing the class will have a fun timed drill (and bragging rights for class Top Gun) and a written test.
Completing the class will allow you to move on to the next class in the coming Spring of 2024. Hopefully allowing you to ask Santa for a shotgun for Christmas…
